Formula Grants

A formula grant is a grant that is apportioned entirely by a formula described in federal or state law. Usually, there is no application process to be awarded a formula grant. Examples of formula grants include disbursements made pursuant to the Quality Basic Education formula and Title I dollars administered to Title I schools or Title I programs. In an effort to streamline communication, formula grant allocations approved by the State Board of Education can be accessed here. Allocations are listed by the respective administering GaDOE office.

FY24 Federal High School Program Grants for Career, Technical, and Agricultural Education GrantAllocations

The State Board of Education approved a $21,855,777 grant award in Federal Funds to Local Education Agencies (LEAs) for the support of CTAE High School and Middle School programs. The CTAE Division of the Georgia Department of Education serves as the fiscal agent for federal funds allocated to the state of Georgia through the Carl D. Perkins V legislation. Grant period ends June 30, 2024.

School Custodians GrantBoard Item

The State Board of Education approved a $8,767,477 grant award in Federal Funds to Local Education Agencies (LEAs) to provide a one-time $1,000 bonus for school custodians in recognition of the increased services and supports required to maintain clean and safe environments for students and staff. Grant period ends September 1, 2023.

FY24 Federal ESSA and IDEA GrantsAllocations

The State Board of Education approved a $1,171,279,188 grant award in Federal Funds to Local Educational Agencies (LEAs) for the purpose of awarding annual formula-based allocations under Title I, Part A; Title I, Part C; Title I, Part D Subpart 1; Title I, Part D Subpart 2; Title II, Part A; Title III, Part A; Title IV, Part A; Title V, Part B; The Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA) 611; and IDEA 619. Grant period ends September 30, 2024.

FY24 Georgia Network for Educational and Therapeutic Support (GNETS) GrantAllocations

The State Board of Education approved a $57,585,852 grant award in Federal and State Funds to 24 Georgia Network for Educational and Therapeutic Support (GNETS) fiscal agents for the purpose of providing students with disabilities who exhibit severe social and behavioral challenges with educational and therapeutic supports. Grant period ends June 30, 2024.

The State Board of Education approved a $1,500,000 grant award in Federal Funds to 24 Georgia Network for Educational and Therapeutic Support (GNETS) for the purpose of providing students with disabilities who exhibit severe social and behavioral challenges with therapeutic supports, specifically licensed clinical staff. Grant period ends June 30, 2024.

FY24 Georgia Parent Mentor Partnership (GaPMP) GrantAllocations

The State Board of Education approved a $1,803,200 grant award in Federal Funds to Local Educational Agencies (LEAs) in the Georgia Parent Mentor Partnership (GaPMP) for the hiring of a parent of a student with a disability to serve as a parent mentor to provide support and training to families within the LEA. Grant period ends June 30, 2024.

FY24 Preschool Disability Services GrantAllocations

The State Board of Education approved a $46,780,890 grant award in State Funds to Local Educational Agencies (LEAs) for meeting the needs of preschool children with disabilities. Grant period ends June 30, 2024.

FY24 State Interagency Services GrantAllocations

The State Board of Education approved a $2,539,213 grant award in State Funds to designated state agencies and Local Educational Agencies (LEAs) for teachers and support staff for collaborative Individualized Education Program (IEP) services. Grant period ends June 30, 2024.

American Rescue Plan (ARP) Act: ESSER III ReallocationBoard Item

The State Board of Education approved a $0 reallocation grant award in Federal Funds to Local Education Agencies (LEAs) for the redistribution of funds due to the closure of Harriet Tubman School of Science and Technology. Georgia allocates funds in accordance with the ARP legislation that requires funds be distributed in the same proportion as each school district received funds under Part A of Title I of the Elementary and Secondary Education Act of 1965, as amended, in the most recent fiscal year. Grant period ends September 30, 2024.

Charter Schools Facilities GrantAllocations

The State Board of Education approved a $7,399,465 grant award in State Funds to eligible charter schools in accordance with the State Charter Schools Act requiring the State Board of Education to disburse facilities grants from funds specifically appropriated for such purpose, to provide local and state charter schools with facilities funding more comparable to traditional public schools. Grant period ends June 30, 2024.

FY24 Title I, Part A, 1003 School Improvement Implementation GrantsAllocations

The State Board of Education approved a $29,705,256 grant award in Federal Funds to Local Education Agencies (LEAs) with schools identified as Targeted Support and Improvement (TSI) and Comprehensive Support and Improvement (CSI). This grant is awarded to support implementation of school improvement plans as outlined in the Elementary and Secondary Education Act (ESEA) of 1965, as amended by the Every Student Succeeds Act of 2015, and the ESEA Flexibility Waiver approved by the United States Education Department on June 12, 2015. Grant period ends September 30, 2024.

FY24 RESA Supplemental GrantsAllocations

The State Board of Education approved a $20,894,860 grant award in State and Federal Funds to 16 Regional Education Service Agencies (RESAs) for school improvement specialists, educational technology services, mathematics mentors, English language arts specialists, school climate specialists, wraparound coordinators, academic recovery specialists, the Growing Readers program, leadership coaching for rural schools, and a rural network initiative. Grant period for federal funds ends September 30, 2024 and state funds June 30, 2024.

Commercial Warehouse Storage and Delivery GrantBoard Item

The State Board of Education approved a $1,200,000 grant award in Federal Funds to School Food Authorities (SFAs) for the reimbursement of expenses from School Year 2023 (SY23) for the commercial warehouse storage and delivery of United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) foods. All SFAs with less than four months cash resources are selected, and the distribution is based on student enrollment, as well as warehouse and delivery expenses. Commercial warehouse storage and delivery invoices for USDA foods will be used for grant allocations. Grant period ends September 30, 2024.

Reduced-Price Student Meal Reimbursement GrantBoard Item

The State Board of Education approved a $6,333,876 grant award in Federal Funds to School Food Authorities (SFAs) for the reimbursement of the remaining cost for the service of reduced-priced student school breakfast and lunches not funded with Federal reimbursement. SFAs submit a monthly meal claim for the grant. The state agency verifies the meal claim and disburses payments to the SFAs on a monthly basis. Grant period ends June 30, 2024.

Supply Chain Assistance GrantAllocations

The State Board of Education approved a $44,484,224 grant award in Federal Funds to School Food Authorities (SFAs) for assisting schools experiencing supply chain disruptions. Grant period ends September 30, 2024.

USDA Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program GrantAllocations

The State Board of Education approved a $5,672,283 grant award in Federal Funds to 47 School Food Authorities (SFAs) for administrative costs for participation in the School Year 2024 (SY24) Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Program (FFVP). Grant period ends June 30, 2024.

Dyslexia Screeners GrantAllocations

The State Board of Education approved a $3,500,000 grant award in State Funds to Local Education Agencies (LEAs) for Dyslexia Screening pursuant to SB 48 (2019 Legislative Session). Grant period ends June 30, 2024.

The State Board of Education approved a $1,450,000 grant award in State Funds to Local Education Agencies (LEAs) for providing feminine hygiene products to low-income students. Grant period ends June 30, 2024.

Project Advancing Wellness and Resiliency in Education (AWARE) Year 4 GrantAllocations

The State Board of Education approved a $1,080,000 grant award in Federal Funds to three Local Education Agencies (LEAs) to support a positive learning environment and increase staff capacity to meet the needs of students. Grant period ends September 30, 2023.

FY24 RESA Mental Health Awareness Training GrantAllocations

The State Board of Education approved a $800,000 grant award in State Funds to 16 Regional Education Service Agencies (RESAs) for assisting with mental health awareness activities to support student mental health and well-being. Grant period ends June 30, 2024.

FY24 School-Based Health Center (SBHC) Renovation GrantAllocations

The State Board of Education approved a $1,340,000 grant award in Federal Funds to five Local Education Agencies (LEAs) previously awarded SBHC planning grants for the renovation and infrastructure of new school-based health centers. Grant period ends September 30, 2025.
